So you want to buy a camera drone for Christmas this year? Whether you are planning it as a gift for yourself or a family member, it’s definitely going to put a smile on your face!

You are in fact in lucky as Christmas this year is the best time ever to buy a drone. Previous years there has been a huge dilemma whether to splash out the money and buy one of the high range DJI Phantom $1,000+ drones that would shoot 12MP/ 1080p+ videos OR whether to settle for a cheaper drone with low quality video but that you could use to fly around and not get a heart attack if you crash it or flies away.

This year, drones, of all sorts have become affordable due to a large number of drones for sale and the increasing competition from both the new and established players.

Are you looking to buy a drone for your family, partner or for yourself? Then here are our top picks of drones for sale this Christmas! All three drones that we chose to feature can shoot 4K video and take 12/13MP photos.

The DJI Phantom 4 drone is the latest and best consumer drone available from DJI. Previous models have made our top lists and this model is no exception. With obstacle avoidance, GPS function and 4K Camera as well as streaming 720p video to the controller from 5km (3 miles) away, it is the best drone for anyone looking to impress, film beautiful videos and shoot high resolution 12MP photos.

The Phantom 4 is guaranteed to please and create smiles on Christmas Day. It is safe to fly, reliable and has an excellent final build.

To get yours now, try Amazon.com or DJI! They start from $1,050 on Amazon, depending on whether you opt for any extra bundles/ batteries. Personally, I would go for this $1,299 bundle with an extra battery, extra propellers and a hard shell case vital for transporting the drone around without damaging it.

Autel Robotics X-Star – $699

The guys from Autel Robotics have packed a lot of goodies into the X-Star Premium. This 5 star reviewed drone on Amazon debuted at CES 2016 and was designated as one of the top drones to watch in the coming year. It has also been featured on Cnet, Wired, TechCrunch and many other notable sites.

Feature wise, it has an awesome 4K camera that can record crystal clear and smooth Ultra HD video, thanks to its 3-axis gimbal which stabilises the image. It can also take 12MP photos. Autel Robotics have patented a SecureFly technology to ensure no interference and plenty of stability even when flying the drone indoors or at low altitudes. The system is powered by dual GPS and GLOBASS satellite navigation and will not be affected by magnetic interference causing it to fly away erratically.

The X-Star Premium can take off and land vertically manually or return home at the touch of a button on the controller.

The drone does not feature obstacle avoidance, but at $699, it packs most of the features of DJI’s premium drone, the Phantom 4. It has also been voted as the best value drone by several YouTubers. Here’s a recent video review.

If you encounter any problems you also have U.S based customer support 7 days a week. Give it a try, you won’t regret it!

It is available for $699 from Amazon.com and comes in two colours; orange and white.

Yuneec Breeze $399

Yuneec Breeze 4K Drone

Last but not least, the Yuneec Breeze is another exceptional drone that can shoot 4K videos and this one takes 13MP photos too! It is equipped with a proprietary Indoor Positioning System developed by Yuneec to allow it to hold its position. The Breeze drone features 5 flight models: Selfie, Pilot, Orbit, Journey and Follow Me. It is thus an ideal drone for selfie taking!

This portable, lightweight and portable drone has foldable propellers so you can easily take it with you to the beach, on holiday or when you go running.
